CASE STUDY.
THE BRIEF.
THE SOLUTION.
Patterson Construction would always recommend that two barriers are used to prevent water ingress.
The first barrier is to prevent water flow which can be in sheet form with a sodium bentonite like Voltex-DS, to form a monolithic, high swelling low permeable membrane. This membrane bonds to the concrete when the geotextile fibres are encapsulated in the wet concrete.
Another membrane we use is a composite sheet of thick HDPE with weather resistant protective coating which bonds to the wet concrete to provide a robust barrier to water, moisture and gas.
A third alternative is a waterproof additive to the concrete when well compacted, and used with water bars to the joints, which will prevent water ingress
